TEHRAN, Oct. 10 (NIPNA)— Iran should make greater use of its petrochemical industry's capacity to boost production, create jobs and generate revenue, Acting Petroleum Minister Hamid Bovard said on Saturday, calling for stronger regulatory oversight and measures to secure feedstock supplies.

Bovard made the remarks at a meeting with the managing director and senior executives of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), stressing the industry's importance to Iran's economy and its potential to generate added value.

He said NPC's regulatory and governance role in the petrochemical sector should be strengthened and pursued systematically, adding that he would provide the necessary support to advance the initiative.

Market oversight and domestic supply

Bovard called for closer coordination among relevant stakeholders to monitor and manage petrochemical market conditions, product prices and supply mechanisms.

The industry's role extends beyond producing and exporting basic petrochemicals, as its products also supply a wide range of downstream industries and contribute to the production of goods used in everyday life, he said.

Making better use of existing capacity could deliver significant economic and social benefits, including higher output, employment and revenue, Bovard added.

Securing feedstock and export revenues

To ensure a stable supply of feedstock, Bovard said petrochemical companies should be more actively involved in developing Iran's oil and gas fields, with the issue pursued as a priority.

He also stressed the need to maintain petrochemical exports and ensure that foreign-exchange earnings from those exports return to the domestic economy.

Bovard called for accelerated reconstruction of petrochemical facilities damaged during what Iranian officials refer to as the Third Imposed War, urging the industry to mobilise available resources to advance rehabilitation efforts.

Maintaining momentum

Praising the work of managers and employees across the petrochemical sector, Bovard said the industry's accumulated experience and technical expertise should be used to advance national economic objectives.

He also commended the oil industry's performance during the first half of the Iranian calendar year, despite prevailing constraints and the wartime situation, and called for that performance to be sustained.

The sector should work with greater confidence, motivation and speed to achieve its objectives, he said, pledging support within his capacity to resolve problems and advance petrochemical development programmes.
