Iran, Russia Seek to Expand Petrochem Cooperation

MOSCOW, Oct. 6, 2026 (NIPNA) — Iran and Russia have discussed ways to expand technical and commercial cooperation in the petrochemical industry, including opportunities to strengthen bilateral ties and facilitate trade.

Kazem Jalali, Iran’s ambassador to Russia, met with Mehrdad Rahimi, a member of the board of directors and director of international affairs at the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), at the Iranian Embassy in Moscow to discuss avenues for expanding cooperation.

The two sides reviewed existing capacities and opportunities for developing technical and commercial relations between the two countries’ petrochemical industries.

Given the sanctions affecting both countries, the meeting emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation, make greater use of their respective capacities and create synergies in technical and commercial areas to facilitate trade and enhance interaction between the two petrochemical sectors.

Rahimi thanked Jalali for his efforts to facilitate commercial exchanges and address obstacles and challenges facing Iranian petrochemical companies. He stressed the need to maintain and strengthen such cooperation and make greater efforts to expand bilateral commercial ties in the sector.

The meeting was held as part of efforts to pursue Iran-Russia economic and trade cooperation opportunities and strengthen interaction among industrial players and organizations in the two countries.
