The book,
titled Energy Efficiency Campaigns: Principles, Global Examples and Lessons
Learned, was unveiled on Monday alongside the signing of cooperation agreements
between NPC and Shiraz Petrochemical and Pardis Petrochemical.
The
seven-chapter publication was authored by Ali Rabbani, Hossein Mahmoudi,
Abdolmajid Mahdavi Damghani, Seyedeh Somayeh Razavi and Mohammad Javad Saket.
It outlines the fundamentals of energy efficiency and examines experiences and
lessons from implementing campaigns in the sector.
Focus on
10% energy savings
The book’s
preface describes the launch of the Nabz Energy campaign, which aims to reduce
energy consumption by 10%.
While the
target may appear modest at first, applying it across millions of households
and thousands of production and industrial facilities could help manage
substantial volumes of natural gas consumption, reduce carbon dioxide emissions
and free up energy resources for productive activities.
According to
the preface, a 10% reduction in energy consumption at the national level could
translate into millions of cubic meters of gas saved or managed. The freed-up
gas could be allocated to other sectors of the economy without requiring
additional expenditure on production and transmission.
The approach
could also help cut carbon dioxide emissions and create greater scope for
directing foreign-currency revenues toward areas such as education, healthcare
and public welfare.
Expanding
participation
In its third
year, the Nabz Energy campaign is seeking to broaden participation by
industries and the public in energy management and direct the energy saved
toward productive sectors.
The
publication documents campaign experiences and aims to transfer the lessons
learned to industrial and implementing organizations.
The campaign
has extended beyond policymaking and consumption management to involve the
public, manufacturing companies, non-governmental organizations and media
outlets.
