TEHRAN, Sept. 13 (NIPNA) — Iran’s downstream petrochemical industries can make a significant contribution to economic development, provided the sector receives appropriate planning and investment, a member of parliament’s Energy Commission said.

Seyed Esmail Hosseini said Iran’s petrochemical industry was continuing its development despite sanctions and the recent war, with progress visible across different parts of the sector.

“The development of the petrochemical industry is undeniable, despite the war and sanctions, and progress can be seen in various areas,” Hosseini told NIPNA, calling for continued support for the strategic industry.

He said efforts made in recent years had placed the industry on a development path, adding that balanced growth across the petrochemical sector could generate greater value added.

Hosseini said the industry had achieved significant results despite sanctions, the war and other challenges, and that further development in both upstream and downstream segments could contribute to job creation.

Iran’s skilled workforce would also help the industry implement its planned development programs, he added.

“The downstream petrochemical industries have made a significant contribution to the country’s economy in recent years,” Hosseini said, stressing that further development and strengthening of the sector would require appropriate planning and investment.
