The breakthrough focuses on potassium carbonate solutions used
primarily in ethylene oxide units to absorb process-generated carbon dioxide ($CO_2$).
Ethylene oxide serves as a critical intermediate feedstock across various
downstream chemical and polymer industries.
Commercialization and Product Optimization
Developed through a strategic partnership between the PRTC and
domestic industrial partners, the formulation was initially brought to market
under the commercial brand PCA_RT2. The chemical product quickly met
operational needs at the Morvarid and Pars Glycol petrochemical complexes.
Following field feedback from plant operators, technical teams
developed an upgraded iteration of the PCA_RT2 formulation aimed at optimizing
both functional performance and cost efficiency.
- Active
Operations: The enhanced formulation is currently
deployed at the Bushehr and Morvarid petrochemical facilities.
- Performance
Impact: According to company officials, the
localized product has raised technical operational standards while
reducing production overhead for local manufacturers.
Technology Transfer to Private Sector
To guarantee stable supply chains across all domestic petrochemical
units, the PRTC has formally transferred the technical know-how for the
formulation to two domestic chemical manufacturers: Pouya Pajooh Bakhtar
and Arya Ofogh Fiyar.
The technology transfer is expected to streamline domestic access to
the vital chemical agent, further reducing import reliance across Iran's
ethylene oxide and glycol production networks.
