Speaking during a virtual parliamentary session attended by Petroleum
Minister Mohsen Paknejad and Energy Optimization Organization head Esmail
Saqqab Esfahani, Mousa Ahmadi said energy security has become a strategic issue
that extends beyond economic considerations and plays a central role in
national stability and infrastructure resilience.
Ahmadi stated that maintaining the continuity of fuel supply and
distribution was a key objective during the disruption period. He said the
measures implemented by relevant authorities enabled the country to preserve
the functioning of the energy supply chain and maintain distribution networks
under challenging conditions.
According to Ahmadi, reviews conducted by the Energy Commission
indicate that the government has implemented a range of measures in recent
months to strengthen the resilience of the national fuel supply system. He
noted that further details on these initiatives were expected to be presented
by the Ministry of Petroleum.
The lawmaker added that natural gas supply-demand imbalances are
generally more manageable during the spring and summer months because of lower
seasonal demand. However, he said additional measures will be required ahead of
the autumn and winter periods, when consumption levels typically increase.
Ahmadi also noted that parts of the country’s energy infrastructure
experienced damage during recent hostilities. He said expert assessments
indicate that restoration efforts can be completed through coordinated
government action, operational measures by relevant institutions, and public
participation.
The chairman of the Energy Commission emphasized that government
performance should be evaluated not only on the basis of actions taken, but
also on the measurable outcomes achieved across the energy value chain.
He outlined the commission’s policy priorities, including a transition
from short-term supply management toward long-term demand management, expanded
use of data-driven governance tools, greater utilization of alternative fuels,
strengthened monitoring of fuel distribution networks, and enhanced resilience
across the national energy system.
