Rouhollah Lak Aliabadi, the parliamentary representative for Dorud and
Azna, said the country has faced natural gas and electricity supply-demand
imbalances in recent years and that addressing these challenges requires
broader engagement from households and consumers.
According to Lak Aliabadi, the campaign demonstrated that meaningful
energy savings can be achieved without placing additional financial burdens on
the government or introducing restrictive measures for the public. He said the
approach could serve as a model for other sectors seeking to improve resource
efficiency.
The lawmaker noted that maintaining industrial production and
supporting economic activity depend on reliable energy supply. Reducing
unnecessary residential consumption, he said, can help make additional energy
available to manufacturing and productive sectors, supporting both output and
employment.
Lak Aliabadi also emphasized the importance of incentive-based
mechanisms in encouraging public participation. Consumers are more likely to
adopt efficiency measures when they can directly observe and benefit from the
results of reduced consumption, he said.
He further called for the development of legal and regulatory
frameworks to support energy-saving certificate markets and other economic
instruments designed to promote efficiency. Establishing financial value for
energy conservation could create opportunities for households, businesses, and
investors to participate more actively in efficiency initiatives, he added.
The lawmaker concluded that consumption management has become a
national priority and said programs that expand public participation in energy
efficiency efforts merit broader implementation and support across the country.
