The program, implemented under the “Nabz-e Energy” campaign, aims to
promote efficient consumption practices and reduce resource waste in public
buildings and households.
The initiative was announced during a joint meeting attended by
municipal environmental officials, NPC energy efficiency managers, and
representatives from Tehran’s water utility, alongside environmental activists
from the city’s 22 districts.
Mohammad Saber Baghanikhour, Director General of Tehran Municipality’s
Environment and Sustainable Development Department, said the campaign is
designed to extend beyond government institutions and reach households. He
emphasized that demand-side efficiency remains one of the most effective
approaches to energy development.
He also highlighted the role of voluntary public participation, noting
that environmental activists can support the expansion of energy- and
water-saving technologies in residential buildings.
Baghanikhour added that the initiative focuses on integrated water and
energy management, leveraging social participation and technical expertise to
support environmental sustainability in the capital.
A representative from the Tehran Water and Wastewater Company
highlighted the city’s water resource constraints and stressed the need for
broad-based conservation efforts. He noted that consumers are categorized based
on usage levels and that demand management programs aim to shift
high-consumption users toward more efficient consumption patterns through the
installation of water-saving devices.
Ali Rabbani, Director of Energy Consumption Optimization at the
National Petrochemical Company, said the “Nabz-e Energy” campaign has gained
strong public participation since its launch and combines energy efficiency
improvements with social contribution mechanisms.
He added that many forms of household energy waste can be addressed
through simple measures and that efficient consumption practices are essential
for preserving national resources for future generations.
The meeting concluded with the inauguration of a retrofit program
covering 500 municipal boiler rooms in Tehran. The project, jointly implemented
by Tehran Municipality and NPC, is expected to significantly reduce energy
losses in public buildings and serve as a model for broader participation in
the efficiency campaign.
