TEHRAN, June 5 (NIPNA) – Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC) and subsidiaries of the Ministry of Energy are expanding cooperation on energy efficiency initiatives and potential investment opportunities aimed at improving resource utilization across the country’s energy sector.

The agreement was discussed during a joint meeting attended by passive defense and crisis management officials from the Ministries of Petroleum and Energy, alongside NPC representatives and executives from energy-sector subsidiaries. The session focused on strengthening institutional cooperation and identifying areas for future collaboration.

Participants reviewed recent energy-efficiency initiatives undertaken by both ministries. Mohammad Mehdi Pouyandeh, Acting Director General of Passive Defense and Crisis Management at the Ministry of Petroleum, highlighted shared priorities and called for closer coordination between the two sectors.

Saifollah Aghabeigi, Head of HSE and Passive Defense at the Ministry of Energy, described the petrochemical industry as a leading sector in energy-efficiency practices and said various departments within the ministry are prepared to expand cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum nationwide.

Ali Rabbani, NPC’s Director of Energy Consumption Optimization, outlined ongoing efficiency programs both within and beyond the petrochemical industry. He also presented the achievements of the “Nabz-e Energy” campaign and announced plans to expand the initiative to include electricity and water consumption management.

According to Rabbani, the campaign’s “10% Energy Consumption Reduction” program has been implemented as part of broader social responsibility efforts. Since its launch, the initiative has contributed to an estimated reduction of approximately 340 million cubic meters of natural gas consumption.

He said the program focuses on public awareness, improved energy-use practices, and efficiency gains through equipment optimization. The initiative seeks to reduce consumption without affecting living standards by promoting practical, low-cost approaches to energy management and encouraging the adoption of more efficient technologies.

Rabbani also highlighted efficiency-improvement opportunities at the Ramin, Hormozgan, and Neka power plants. He said that enhanced institutional coordination and accelerated contract implementation could generate an additional 400 megawatts of electricity capacity through productivity improvements alone, without requiring additional fuel consumption.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue consultations and hold further sessions aimed at expanding cooperation across multiple areas of the energy sector.
