TEHRAN, May 24 (NIPNA) – The head of energy consumption optimization at National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said a national energy-saving campaign has reduced natural gas consumption by approximately 340 million cubic meters since its launch, as part of efforts to improve efficiency and manage demand.

Ali Rabbani said the “Energy Pulse” initiative, aligned with a broader 10% consumption reduction program, has been implemented as a social responsibility framework aimed at encouraging households and industries to reduce energy use through behavioral and technical measures.

He said the program originated in 2014 in Mahshahr and was later expanded into a formal national framework following agreements between the petrochemical sector and the gas industry, with official implementation beginning in late 2024.

According to Rabbani, around 430,000 subscribers have participated in the program, contributing to cumulative gas savings of roughly 340 million cubic meters between December 2024 and May 2026.

He added that early phases focused on high-consumption users, while later adjustments expanded incentives to broader consumer groups, including low-consumption households, in order to improve overall system efficiency.

The initiative also incorporates financial and non-financial incentives, including reward systems and social benefit mechanisms that allow participants to allocate credits to charitable and environmental projects.

Rabbani noted that similar efficiency programs are being extended to industrial and agricultural sectors, with additional cooperation agreements under development to reduce energy intensity and support infrastructure optimization across the economy.
