Speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate the development phase of the Tous
gas field and the Dehloran gas compression station, Pezeshkian said around 5
million cubic metres of gas are flared daily across Iran’s fields, amounting to
an estimated loss of $17 million per day in national wealth.
“With such an amount, major transformations could be created in the
country’s development path,” he said, adding that the continued loss of these
resources was unacceptable.
The president urged project operators and contractors at the Oil
Ministry to shorten execution timelines through careful planning and greater
coordination, stressing that no time should be wasted in safeguarding the
country’s energy resources.
“In this process, not even an hour should be lost, and all available
capacities must be mobilised to accelerate the collection of associated gas,”
he said.
Pezeshkian said revenues generated from gas recovery and savings
should be spent directly on the development and prosperity of host regions
where oil and gas projects are located.
At the end of the ceremony, marking the anniversary period of the 1979
Islamic Revolution, the president formally ordered the launch of the first
phase of the Tous gas field development project, with an investment of 120
million euros, and the Dehloran pressure-boosting station, valued at 125
million euros.
He expressed hope that Iran would soon mark the complete end of daily
losses caused by gas flaring, describing it as a key objective for the
country’s oil and gas sector.
