The Dehloran plant, with an operational capacity of 82 million cubic
feet per day of sour and rich gas, was launched by presidential order via
videoconference, with President Masoud Pezeshkian and Petroleum Minister Mohsen
Paknejad attending the ceremony remotely.
Located about 40 km southwest of Dehloran in Ilam province, the project
is designed to capture associated gas from oil production that would otherwise
be flared, returning processed gas to the consumption network and supporting
downstream industries. Construction began in 2020, and trial operations started
in October 2025.
The project was developed with an investment of 125 million euros
under an engineering, procurement, construction and financing (EPCF) model. It
is capable of collecting and compressing about 2.32 million cubic metres per
day of sour and rich gas through four compression trains.
The Dehloran facility is part of the Petroleum Ministry’s broader
programme to curb gas flaring and complete the value chain for associated
petroleum gas. Captured gas will partly supply feedstock to the NGL 3100 plant,
which began operations in August, while heavier hydrocarbons will be separated
for use in downstream petrochemical units.
Dry, sweet gas from the plant will be injected into Ilam province’s
gas distribution network, helping to improve regional energy supply stability,
the ministry said.
The project also generated employment, creating around 500 jobs during
construction and 150 permanent positions during operations. According to
officials, the plant was completed with 4.6 million man-hours worked without
fatal accidents, marking a strong safety performance.
Iran has prioritised flare gas recovery projects in recent years as
part of efforts to reduce emissions, limit resource waste and expand oil and
gas development in western regions of the country.
