TEHRAN, Feb. 3 (NIPNA) — Zagros Petrochemical Company has successfully implemented a gas flare recovery project (Zero Flaring) and commissioned an advanced PSA unit, achieving for the first time in Iran a methanol production process without gas wastage or flaring.

The project was inaugurated today during the Fajr Decade celebrations under the directive of President Masoud Pezeshkian, with the presence of the CEO of the National Petrochemical Company and other national and provincial officials.

All equipment in this unit was fully designed, manufactured, and installed by domestic engineering teams. The system converts gases that would normally be flared into valuable compounds, including high-purity hydrogen (99.98%) and CO- and CO-rich gases, which are reused in the production process.

The hydrogen is injected into the synthesis reactor loop, increasing methanol output by up to 150 tons per day, while recycled gases used in furnaces reduce natural gas consumption by 10%, significantly lowering energy costs.

Beyond improving the company’s economic performance (over $1 million in monthly profit), the project achieves full flare elimination, reduces environmental pollutants, and represents a major step toward green and sustainable development in Iran’s petrochemical industry.
