Ali Rabani, director of energy optimization at
NPC, highlighted the growing impact of the initiative during the second round
of individual prize draws for participants in the “10% Energy Reduction”
campaign, part of the broader “Energy Mondays” program.
He said the campaign, implemented without
government funding or mandatory directives, relies on a social dialogue
model—“people for people”—to promote conscious energy use and reduce waste.
Rabani noted that initial skepticism has
gradually given way to visible results. He cited Tehran’s daily gas consumption
of roughly 120 million cubic meters, explaining that a 10% reduction could
allow five urea production units to remain operational. “The public is not to
blame for high consumption, but their role is decisive in managing it,” he
said.
The campaign also encourages participation from
industry. Mohammad Yasin Arashpour, assistant to the CEO at Pardis
Petrochemical Company, emphasized the role of energy-intensive industries in
reducing pressure on the gas network during peak demand. “This initiative
enables industries to fulfill their social responsibility while contributing to
network stability,” he said.
In parallel, Zagros Petrochemical Company is set
to launch a PSA unit to capture process gas and prevent energy loss. Ehssan
Shafiei, the company’s legal manager, said the project could prevent fuel waste
equivalent to 50,000 tons of methanol annually, reinforcing both economic and
energy sustainability goals.
The campaign’s social impact was also
highlighted. Participants’ engagement has funded environmental and social initiatives,
including forest restoration, wheelchairs for children, and wetland
conservation. Officials said the initiative is particularly critical in
northern provinces, where gas supply is vulnerable during winter peaks.
Mohammad Etesami, head of energy and carbon at
Gilan Gas Company, said even a 10% reduction in consumption could significantly
alleviate pressure on the network in Mazandaran and Golestan provinces.
The public is invited to join the campaign
through the website nabzenergy.ir
to contribute to national energy savings and access rewards.
The campaign represents a coordinated effort by
the NPC, petrochemical companies, and regional gas operators to balance
industrial needs, public consumption, and energy network sustainability.
