Zeinab Gheisari, chair of the parliamentary
faction, said approval of a statute for the National Petrochemical Company and
the creation of a regulatory body are among the chamber’s key priorities.
“The petrochemical sector is the country’s most
valuable source of foreign currency. Its challenges must be addressed if we are
to meet the goals set out in the Seventh Development Plan,” Gheisari was quoted
as saying.
She added that the caucus was established both to
support and to monitor the industry, identifying legal gaps that may hinder
growth. Gheisari also underlined the importance of updating the statute of the
National Petrochemical Company so it can operate as a development-oriented
organization.
“The situation of petrochemicals today is very
different from previous years. The industry is on a development path, and while
we legislate, we must also ensure oversight,” she said, noting that
petrochemical plants are among the country’s largest consumers of natural gas.
