TEHRAN (NIPNA) – The National Petrochemical Company (NPC) has recognized the efforts of residents, officials, and employees in Mazandaran Province for their active participation in a nationwide campaign to reduce natural gas consumption by 10%.

At a ceremony held in observance of National Energy Efficiency Day, senior officials including the provincial governor, the CEO of Mazandaran Gas Company, and regional managers gathered to honour top contributors to the initiative, which also encouraged electricity conservation.

Ali Rabani, Director of Energy Optimization at the NPC, praised the collaboration of more than 10 cities across the province, noting that their high participation rate demonstrated the campaign’s effectiveness and potential for national expansion.

“Despite colder weather during the winter of 2024, gas consumption by participating households in Mazandaran increased by less than 3% compared to the 2022 baseline,” Rabani stated. “In fact, households that actively joined the campaign recorded an average reduction of nearly 4%, marking a net 7% improvement compared to non-participants.”

Rabani emphasized the importance of public awareness, structural energy efficiency upgrades, and adherence to national building regulations as key strategies for sustainable energy use. He also called for targeted investments in heating and cooling technologies, which could support Iran’s goal of becoming a top 10 global gas exporter.

He further announced the petrochemical sector’s readiness to invest in energy optimization initiatives across the power and agriculture sectors—pending the resolution of regulatory barriers—in response to proposals raised by local authorities and the CEO of Mazandaran Gas Company.

With over 86,000 gas subscribers taking part, Mazandaran ranked first in participation among provinces. Three rounds of prize draws have already distributed 717 high-efficiency appliances to selected participants. A final draw, scheduled for mid-June, will award over 3,000 additional energy-saving devices.
