TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Iran's petrochemical sector remains at the forefront of the country’s non-oil exports and holds significant potential for generating foreign currency revenues, a member of the Iranian Parliament said on Sunday.

Speaking to NIPNA, Abolghasem Jarareh, representative of Tehran in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, emphasized that the petrochemical industry should not be viewed merely as an economic enterprise, but rather as a strategic asset—especially under current international sanctions on Iran's oil sector.

"Given the unjust sanctions imposed on our oil industry, supporting petrochemicals is critical," Jarareh said. "The sector plays a key role in securing foreign currency income and meeting domestic industrial needs."

He added that completing and operationalizing ongoing petrochemical projects will accelerate the sector’s development and deliver notable gains in the near future.

Jarareh also described the petrochemical industry as a core pillar of Iran’s oil value chain, capable of driving both wealth creation and expansion in downstream industries. He called on policymakers to seize the opportunity the sector presents for high value-added revenue generation.
