Iran Petchem Industry Unveils 1st Industrial Data Diode Technology

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran’s petrochemical sector has introduced its first industrial data diode technology, marking a significant step in digital transformation at Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company.

The unveiling ceremony for the “Datarior” industrial data diode, an advanced cybersecurity and data management solution, was held at Bandar Imam Petrochemical and attended by senior officials, including Sepahdar Ansari-Nik, CEO of Bandar Imam Petrochemical (via online participation), Hadi Karimi, Deputy for Cyber Defense at Iran’s Passive Defense Organization, and Sina Hosseinpour, Head of the Metaverse, Blockchain, and AI Innovation Center at Sharif University of Technology.

A Secure Bridge Between Industrial and IT Networks

Developed through a collaboration between Bandar Imam Petrochemical and Sharif University’s Innovation Center, Datarior provides a secure connection between industrial operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) networks. This breakthrough facilitates real-time data analysis, artificial intelligence modeling, and enhanced digital operations, making it a milestone for Iran’s petrochemical industry.

Digital Transformation at Bandar Imam Petrochemical

The Datarior project is part of Bandar Imam Petrochemical’s broader digital transformation initiative, which began in early 2024 and is set to be fully implemented by 2025. The initiative focuses on smart industrial operations, cybersecurity enhancements, and data-driven decision-making to boost efficiency and security in the petrochemical sector.

Ansari-Nik emphasized the importance of integrating industrial operations with IT systems, calling it a critical step toward digitalizing Iran’s petrochemical industry. He stated, "For the first time, we have established a real connection between OT and IT, paving the way for enhanced security and data management."

Strengthening Cybersecurity and Operational Efficiency

Hosseinpour highlighted the organizational agility benefits of deploying the Datarior system, noting that previously restricted control system data can now be utilized for advanced analytics and AI applications, fostering innovation and efficiency in industrial operations.

Meanwhile, Karimi from Iran’s Passive Defense Organization praised Bandar Imam Petrochemical for empowering young Iranian specialists to develop homegrown cybersecurity solutions, reducing reliance on foreign technologies.

The launch of Datarior underscores Bandar Imam Petrochemical’s commitment to digital transformation and cybersecurity, setting a precedent for other industrial players in Iran’s energy sector.
