TEHRAN (NIPNA) - Morteza Shahmirzaei, the Deputy Petroleum Minister and CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), emphasized the strategic importance of advancing petrochemical projects in Golestan, Zanjan, and Ibn Sina Hamedan, branding them as crucial beacons of hope for the 13th administration.

Addressing attendees at the inaugural CAPTURE CO2 brainstorming session on Thursday, Shahmirzaei underscored the astute selection of developmental strategies in the petrochemical industry and the earnest focus of the people-centric 13th administration on fostering hope and progress. He stressed the proactive pursuit and expedited implementation of petrochemical projects in regions where progress had been stagnant for years.

Shahmirzaei highlighted the special attention given to the strategy of collecting associated gas and managing carbon in recent years, particularly through the implementation of gas collection strategies in Gachsaran, Marun, Masjed Soleyman, and eastern Ahvaz. These endeavors not only preserve the environment but also fulfill the feedstock requirements of petrochemical complexes, thereby completing the value chain.

Drawing attention to the revival of semi-completed and stalled petrochemical projects, Shahmirzaei affirmed that recommencing projects in Golestan, Zanjan, and Ibn Sina Hamedan marked a significant stride towards hope and development across various regions.

While advocating for domestic production support, Shahmirzaei urged for the swift transfer of technical know-how and cutting-edge technologies to achieve self-sufficiency.

He acknowledged Iran's resilience in the face of sanctions, noting that it has spurred innovation, enabling the advancement of the petrochemical industry based on domestic capabilities.

Shahmirzaei disclosed that the principled approval for the implementation of the ammonia project by the Persian Gulf Star Oil Company has been granted. This project is poised to prevent the wastage of 95,000 tons of hydrogen while adding 450,000 tons to the nation's ammonia production capacity.

Furthermore, the CEO stressed the imperative to convert less than 8 percent of the total consumed gas by petrochemical complexes into value-added and final products, aiming to mitigate raw sales and complete the value chain.

Concluding his address, Shahmirzaei urged all participants to heed the Supreme Leader's emphasis on responding to people's demands from officials.

He affirmed the readiness of all managers and employees of the National Petrochemical Company to collaborate in safeguarding the environment and ensuring the sustainable development of Iran's petrochemical industry.

The inaugural CAPTURE CO2 brainstorming session saw the participation of managers and representatives from the Ministry of Petroleum, affiliated companies, the Ministry of Energy, petrochemical complexes, refineries, and the Petrochemical Research and Technology Company.
