Petchem Feedstock Available in Coming Decades: CEO

TEHRAN (NIPNA) – The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said given the vast oil and gas reserves in the country, petrochemical feedstock will be available in the country for the many decades to come.

In a meeting with the trade delegation of Belarus, Morteza Shahmirzaei said: “Considering the oil and gas reserves in the country, it is possible to guarantee and supply the feedstock required by the Iranian petrochemical industry for the decades to come, which is a guarantee for the presence of investors in development projects.”

The Deputy Petroleum Minister said: “Iran's petrochemical industry is ready due to the existence of favorable infrastructures to cooperate with this country in the field of supplying petrochemical products, raw materials, catalysts, technical knowhow and technical and engineering services needed by Belarus.”

Stating that the annual production capacity of Iran's petrochemical industry is 90 million tons and 500 grades of polymer and chemical products, he said: “The export volume of Iran's petrochemical industry was around 25 million tons last [calendar] year.”

According to Shahmirzaei, the production capacity of Iran's petrochemical products is expected to increase to 200 million tons in the next 10 years in all kinds of value and supplementary chains.

The NPC CEO continued by positively evaluating the joint capacities of cooperation with Belarus: “There are various fields for cooperation, especially in the petrochemical industry, and efforts should be made to strengthen bilateral relations at the same time as the consultations continue.”
