Iran-made Petchem Plant Ready for Startup

TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Phase II of Takhtjamshid Petrochemical Plant, dubbed as the first project of the second leap in Iran’s petrochemical industry, is about to be launched. The project is almost entirely developed by Iranian companies.

The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), Behzad Mohammadi told NIPNA that the project would be launched with 55,000 tons/year of production capacity. It will be a supplier of polybutadiene rubber which is used in downstream industries for production of tires and rubber items.

He said 27 projects were planned to create the second leap of the petrochemical industry of Iran, adding once the projects came online, diversification of the petrochemical and polymer mix of the country would be realized.

The official further said the project would be the most Iranian-made petrochemical plant in the industry so far, adding the plant would render Iran self-sufficient in production of polybutadiene rubber.

Mohammadi, who is also deputy petroleum minister for petrochemical affairs, added the most important features of construction Takhtjamshid Petrochemical Company is the use of purely Iranian and indigenous technical knowledge as well as production of a variety of items domestically.
