TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- A member of the Iranian parliament stressed the need to support the Iranian petrochemical industry in all areas, adding that the petrochemical industry generated the highest value added for the country.

Speaking to NIPNA, Mohammad Ali Vakili, a member of the parliament’s presiding board, said Iran's petrochemical industry needed support to complete the value chain aimed at producing end-user products.

"Sale of raw materials must be minimized by a national determination and, undoubtedly, the growing development of the petrochemical industry will be a major contribution to increasing non-oil exports, because these products have a good market in the region and the world despite the sanctions,” the MP said.

He further added that the supply of petrochemical products along with foreign exchange earnings also generated jobs. “The petrochemical industry is one of the industries that prevent the sale of crude resources and brings the highest value added to the country.”

Vakili said today, the petrochemical industry is self-sufficient in many respects, and that Iran now has a high potential in producing petrochemical equipment by local manufacturers who need to be supported in various ways.
