TEHRAN (NIPNA) – A member of the Iranian parliament said, given the rich oil and gas resources in the country, the development of petrochemical industry has become a priority of economic development policies of Iran.

Speaking to NIPNA, Ali Sari, the representative of Ahwaz and Bavi people in the Iranian parliament, said promotion of the petrochemical industry’s status in the region and the world was among the top priorities of the country's strategic petrochemical development.
He said realization of the petrochemical strategies in line with goals such as increasing export revenues, gradually eliminating the dependence on crude oil and gas sales, and expanding the downstream petrochemical industries would set the ground for expanding other sectors of the economy, including agriculture, services, employment and GDP growth, and improve the welfare level of the community.
Pointing out that the production capacity of urea and methanol was growing in Iran, the MP added: “In recent years, despite the economic problems and sanctions, the production capacity of these petrochemical products has increased, which reflects their special position of the petrochemical industry of the country.
Sari went on to point out the high potential of Iran's petrochemical industry, saying: “The petrochemical sector is a major source of income that accounts for most of the country's non-oil exports. Petrochemical industries in Iran have unique capabilities, and one of them is human resources.”
