TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh said that preparations were under way to realize the third leap in the country’s petrochemical production capacity.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a conference on CSR in oil industry, the official said Iran’s petrochemical output had nearly doubled since 2013, adding, “We are preparing for the third petrochemical leap in the country.”

He also touched on the Iran Plast International Exhibition which is due in September, adding the fair is a real petrochemical showcase.

“Today, there is a $6-billion market for petrochemical feedstock which is unparalleled in all other industries,” Zangeneh said.

The official went on to add that the petrochemical industry was a refined sector which converted crude oil and gas into value-added products.

“The sector has undergone a leap in recent years in Iran and would experience its second leap by 2021.”
