Iran Eyes 28 mt Growth in Petchem Output

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Plans are under way to launch 18 petrochemical projects which, once operational, will add 28 million tons to the country’s petrochemical production capacity.

Speaking to NIPNA, Ali Mohammad Bossaqzadeh, director of projects at the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), said that these projects would bring Iran’s total petrochemical production capacity to 94 million tons per year.

This calendar year, which began on March 21, three projects are scheduled to come on stream: Kaveh Petrochemical Plant, the first phase of Bushehr Petrochemical Plant and Ilam Olefin Project, he said.

Next year, 15 other projects will come online which include Miandoab Petrochemical Plant, Kimia Pars Middle East Plant, Lordegan Fertilizer Plant, Persian Gulf Bidboland Gas Refinery, Ebn Sina Petrochemicals Company, Arta Energy Methanol Plant, Sabalan Petrochemical Plant, the first phase of Pad Jam ABS Polymer Plant, Kangan Petro-refinery, Sepehr Parsian Refinery, Dey Aria Polymer Plant, Hengam Petrochemical Plant, Pars Phanal Plant, and Aryan D-polymer Plant.

Last year, Iranian petrochemical planted operated with 65.8 million tons per year of nameplate production capacity.

This year, with inauguration of the three projects, 7 mt/y will be added to the country’s total production capacity, Bossaqzadeh added.
