TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh said the value of Iran’s petrochemical output would be doubled by 2022 from the 2013 figures.

Speaking in a televised interview on Sunday evening, the official said petrochemical production value of the country would increase by 8 to 9 billion dollars per annum by 2022 in comparison with the 2018 figures which is a major leap in the sector.

“Fortunately, a major portion of the country’s output is consumed domestically as feedstock by other plants in the value chain of items,” he said.

Zangeneh added that currently around 5 billion dollars of feedstock was being supplied to downstream industries which could be increased if there was a demand for it.

He further said that imposing sanctions on the petrochemical sector would not impact the industry because the sanctions were nothing new in the industry and the US used them as a means to run its propaganda against Iran.
