TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- A European company has finished studies over construction of a key petrochemical project in Iran’s Assalouyeh petrochemical hub, a senior petrochemical official said.

Speaking to NIPNA, Hossein Alimorad, director of investment at the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), said construction of the project is about to start as the European contractor has indicated keenness to develop the project.

He said the project’s construction will begin once economic and technical assessments are finalized.

The official said many leading European and Asian firms have signaled readiness to join petrochemical projects in Iran.

“Several international companies are currently hammering out deals for developing projects in Iran,” he said.

Since January 2016, the month Iran’s nuclear deal with the P5+1 group of countries was set in motion, NPC has inked dozens of memoranda of understanding (MoU’s) with leading international companies for constructing petrochemical facilities in Iran.

Alimorad said besides Europeans, many companies from countries like Japan and South Korea have shown interest to join projects in a ban-free Iran.
