TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The managing director of Sabalan Petrochemical Plant said the project had so far gained 85 percent physical progress, adding the facility was being developed for 1.65 mt/y of methanol production capacity.

Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the 24th Iran Oil Show, Mohammad Zali said the catalyst produced at the Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (PRTC) met the required standards and could jockey with their European rivals.

Once operational, the plant will need 280 to 300 tons per year of the catalyst.

Sabalan Petrochemical Company has inked deal with the PRTC to supply of the catalyst used for production methanol.

“Previously production of the catalyst was monopolized by European companies but now PRTC has developed the savvy to produced domestically,” he added.

Zali said the PRTC researchers had gained great skills in production of petrochemical catalysts domestically, adding that they had spent over a decade in research in the field.

The catalyst is used for production of methanol and by 2025, production of the item will reach 1,200 tons per year.
