PGPIC Subsidiaries Launching PSM Systems

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- All the subsidiaries of Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC) are launching process safety management systems in order to prevent releases of hazardous substances.

Mohammad Ali Khademian, Health, Safety and Environment Director General of PGPIC, told NIPNA about the holding’s plans in the current Iranian calendar year which bagan on March 20.

He said the systems were being established in all of PGPIC subsidiaries in order to prevent the release of hazardous chemicals.

The official said that one of the main HSE programs of PGPIC in the previous calendar year was auditing the units for safety-related and fire-fighting measures using European and South African consultants, which provided good reports.

Khademian noted that the concerns regarding recent rainfalls in the country which claimed the lives of over 75 people since last month, saying there were no HSE-related issues in the plants that operated in the flooded areas of the country.

PGPIC governs dozens of petrochemical plants, which account for the lion’s share of the country’s petrochemical output.

Process safety management system is a regulation promulgated by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A process is any activity or combination of activities including any use, storage, manufacturing, handling or the on-site movement of highly hazardous chemicals (HHCs) as defined by OSHA and the Environmental Protection Agency.
