TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Chimitex Arya, Iran’s only producer of MEK, has succeeded in achieving its goals and turning profits in the previous Iranian calendar year which ended on March 20.

According to Shimi Baft Company, the CEO of Chimitex Arya, Mohsen Shams, said the company was previously losing money due to certain structural problems and specific barriers, but was currently reaping profits by efficient planning and minimizing costs.

He said the company’s sales in the previous year, which ended on March 20, stood at Rls. 500 billion, a new record for the plant, indicating a 300% increase in year-over-year profits.

"Stabilization in the production and optimization of assets are the company's top priority for the New Year,” he said.

Shams said sustainable development required a long-term view, adding that "all our efforts have been focused on achieving continuous production in the new year in line with the Supreme Leader’s motto for the year which is ‘production boom’”.

The company was launched in 2010 as the first and only supplier of butanone, also known as methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), in Iran and the Middle East.

The plant operates with 3,000 tons per year of production capacity and is located in Mahshahr, in the southwestern province of Khuzestan.

Butanone is an organic compound and colorless liquid ketone which has a sharp, sweet odor reminiscent of butterscotch and acetone. It is produced industrially on a large scale, and also occurs in trace amounts in nature. It is soluble in water and is commonly used as an industrial solvent.
