Iran to Launch 18 Petchem Projects by 2021

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh said the country would inaugurate 18 petrochemical projects by the end of President Rouhani’s second term in office.

Addressing a ceremony to officially launch phases 13 and 22-24 of the major joint gas field, that was held in the presence of the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in the southern city of Assaluyeh on Sunday, Mr. Zangeneh said 15 projects with $5.6 billion of investment came on-stream between 2013 and 2018, adding 18 other projects were expected to become operational by 2021, end of the second term of President Rouhani in office.

Zangeneh said the 15 projects added $5.2 billion to the value of petrochemical produced in Iran.

Furthermore, he added, Kaveh Methanol Project, Phase I of Bushehr Petrochemical Plant, and Phase II of Ilam Plant would come on-stream next calendar year.

He further said that Iran’s gas recovery from South Pars would reach 750 mcm/d by late 2019, when phase 14 of the field comes online.

The official said that Iran was currently supplying 841 mcm/d of natural gas while output stood at 622 mcm/d in 2013.
