Addressing
a meeting with senior executives from the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries
Company (PGPIC), the official underlined the significance of producing
strategic petrochemical products in order to reduce imports dramatically.
He said
NPC played the role of a monitor or supervisor in the petrochemical sector
after the industry was privatized in Iran.
The official
further stated that the development of the sector required macro-planning with
a view on global petrochemical developments which could have been devised
jointly by petrochemical industrialists and NPC.
Mr.
Mohammadi said Iran enjoyed only 0.6 percent of the world’s petrochemical market
share which indicated a lot needed to be done domestically in the field. This is
while, he added, China enjoys a 40% share in the petrochemical market of the world.
