Iran Eyes 8.5mt Petchem Production Rise by Launching Makran Petchem Park

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran's petrochemical production capacity will grow by at least 8.5 million tons per annum once phase I of Makran Petrochemical Town comes online.

Speaking to NIPNA, the CEO of Negin Makran Petrochemical Development Company, Mohammad Reza Movasaghi, said the project originally concerned development of 18 petrochemical plants aimed at production of upstream products like methanol, urea, ammonia, olefins and aromatic products.

The first phase of the project entails 5 advanced GTX units, an urea-ammonia unit and a utility complex to supply the needs of adjacent plants, he added.

So far, one of the GTX units has made 25% progress.

Iranian Petrochemical Plants supplied 8.71 million tons of petrochemical products over the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 21.

According to the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) public relations, the 20 facilities operating at Mahshahr petrochemical Zone in the southwestern province of Khuzestan supplied 2.9 mt of petrochemicals during the period.

Moreover, the plants operating at Assaluyeh supplied 3.8 million tons of products.

Besides, the 20 other petrochemical complexes being run in other parts of the country provided 1.8 million tons of products.

Export of 3.6 million tons of petrochemicals fetched over $2.229 billion in revenues for the country during the two months.
