TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- A member of the Iranian parliament said development of the petrochemical industry of Iran could ramp up its non-oil exports in line with the principles of economic resilience.

Speaking to NIPNA, Jalal Mirzaei, spokesperson of the parliament's energy committee, said unfortunately the country's budget is dependent on petrodollars and a large sum of oil income is injected to the budget annually which has negative ramifications for the country.

"Now, considering the country's status, we need to step towards production of end-user items and minimizing sale of crude oil and gas," the MP said.

He also proposed that mechanisms must be worked out to wean the economy off petrodollars.

Development of major industries like the petrochemical industry is one of the methods that can ensure minimizing crude oil and gas, the MP said, adding such industries generate wealth for the country.

Materialization of the Economy of Resilience is a key priority for the country, therefore development of all the industries that can ensure realization of the Economy's principles would be prioritized over others.
