Speaking to NIPNA, Mehdi Ghafeleh Bashi, director
of the polymer research group at PRTC, said the major achievement of the unit
last year was to sign a major investment contract on the 150,000-ton demo plant
of a polypropylene unit and a 300,000-ton demo plant of a polyethylene unit.
"We can now proudly claim that we enjoy the engineering
package of the two demo plants while many of the items used in the units are
domestically manufactured or are being operated by local experts and
contractors."
He stated setting up of polymer units is very
complicated and difficult. On the other hand, a demo unit is similar to the
industrial unit in a smaller scale, i.e. all sectors, such as feedstock supply,
catalyst supply, processes and utility supply, and final product manufacturing
are completely similar to the industrial model.
