Speaking to NIPNA, Abbas Shari-Moqaddam said
Iran's petrochemical industry was on the path to progress and domestic
capabilities were tapped to develop the sector.
He said blocking imports to the sector would not
be very advantages for its development, adding, "Rather, the barriers to
the sector's flourishment must be identified and government officials be aware
of the difficulties of producers."
As an example, a producer needs to undergo a lot
of red tape in order to obtain a permit to launch a simple unit, he said,
adding the government can be helpful by lubricating processes for the
interested industrialists willing to operate in the sector.
Iran currently has the capacity of production 64
million metric tons of petrochemicals annually while it supplied around 56
million tons last calendar year which ended on March 20.
