TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The construction of part of the third phase of the West Ethylene Pipeline will begin within the next few months after selection of a contractor for developing the project.

Abdul Hussein Bayat, deputy director of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) in the West Ethylene Pipeline project, told NIPNA that construction of a part of the pipeline's third phase includes an offshoot from Siahmakan to Gachsaran Petrochemical Plant and then to Dehdasht Petrochemical Plant with two pressure stations en route.

He said tenders for selecting contractors for the project are under way and will be complete within the next few months.

Commissioning of the project's second phase has started but it is not still fully operational.

"Our first priority in the current [calendar] year is to fully operate the phase," he added.

The first and second phases of the pipeline stretch 1,700 kilometers and the third phase will be 125-km long.

The pipeline carries petrochemical feedstock to the plants operating in western Iranian provinces.
