Iran poised for Major Petchem Leap Next Year: MP

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- A member of the Iranian parliament says the country expects a major leap in petrochemical industry next calendar year.

Iran has devised several petrochemical projects that are planned to come on-stream next calendar year, beginning on March 21.

Speaking to NIPNA, Mohammad Ghasim Othmani said that the petrochemical sector is a highly lucrative section in Iran, expressing optimism that the country experiences a major leap in the sector next calendar year.

He underlined the significant role the industry plays in realizing economic growth and creation of jobs in the country, adding that the industry is one of the key economic sectors which enjoy favorable infrastructure and advantages that make is luring for investors.

"I hope that by development of the industry, the economy is weaned off sale of crude oil and gas," the MP said.

He also called on the administration and the parliament to render more support to the sector as it can be a source of revenue for the country.
