Speaking to NIPNA, Hossein Amiri Khamkani, a member of the parliament's
energy committee, said the Iranian petrochemical industry is one of the most
important sectors of the country's economy, and added that the industry enjoys the required infrastructure and advantages for foreign investors.
The MP also called on paving the grounds for facilitating the flow of capital to the country.
Khamekani said that the export of petrochemical products constitutes a
major part of Iran's non-oil exports, adding: "The abundance
of liquid and gas hydrocarbon reserves in Iran, to be used either as feedstock
and fuel in the petrochemical industry, turns the sector into the linking piece
of converting energy carriers to value-added items."
He continued: "Now after the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive
Plan of Action (JCPOA), development of the industry has accelerated, providing favorable
circumstances for completion of the infrastructure and meeting the requirements
of the petrochemical industry."
The MP
further said that several petrochemical projects are being implemented by the Iranian
private sector, which will increase the nominal capacity of the country's
petrochemical output by several million tons in the coming years.
