Plant takes Major Step to save Environment

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Amir Kabir Petrochemical Complex has implemented a project to transfer its surface water in a bid to materialize an industrial wastewater treatment system.

According to the plant's public relations department, Shahdad Hemmatian, director of environment at the complex, said, "We believe that in order to deal with possible contaminants and monitor areas with the potential of contamination and the release of pollutants to the environment, we must implement ISO 14000 and HSE-MS standard environment management systems."

He added that in order to meet these standards, based on the strategic objectives of the organization, the plant has defined projects to save the environment by treating its wastewater output.

Covering an area of 55 hectares, Amir Kabir Petrochemical Complex is located in Bandar Emam, Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone, the southwestern province of Khuzestan.

The plant's total petrochemical production stood at 617,129 tons in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 21.
