Speaking to
NIPNA, Mohammad Reza Pour Ebrahami emphasized the importance of petrochemical
industry in the country's economy, saying, “Iran's petrochemical industry could
play a greater role in the country's economic development through timely
investment and paying more attention to the downstream industries.”
The MP called
for introduction of incentives for upstream developers to ensure their interest
in developing downstream projects.
He added that
many petrochemical companies have become privatized in Iran, and their
competitiveness and power of attracting new capital in these companies have
increased.
“As
complementary industries and the value chain of these companies are completed, the
economy can be weaned off sale of crude hydrocarbons, leading to a robust
economy in the country,” the MP added.
Pour Ebrahimi
stated: "Due to the availability of proper production capacity and massive
oil and gas reserves, Iran can take advantage of the expansion of petrochemical
sector for the region's markets. Undoubtedly, our country's petrochemical
complexes can supply many of the downstream needs."
The head of
the Economic Committee of the Parliament emphasized that attention to domestic
manufacturing, especially in oil and petrochemical industries, is fully
supported by the people's representatives in the parliament, and “we hope that
we can manufacture many of the equipment and components used in the
petrochemical industry inside the country, based on state-of-the-art technologies.
