credited laboratory testing system.
Participation to proficiency
tests (laboratory evaluating interlaboratory tests) is considered mandatory for
laboratories accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025 and EN 45003. Checking
analyses results with those of other laboratories is an important third line
quality control element. Corrective actions may be taken if the results deviate
systematically.
"Proficiency Testing is the use of
interlaboratory study to determine the performance of individual laboratories
for specific tests and to monitor laboratories' continuing performance.
Participating in PT-schemes provides laboratories with an objective means of
assessing and demonstrating the reliability of the data they are
producing" (quoted from ISO Guide 43)
