Speaking to NIPNA on the sidelines of a ceremony
to sign a €34m deal with Iran's Ardebil Petrochemical Company for construction of
a 500,000 ton gas to polypropylene unit, Veronesi said Iran enjoys vast
potentialities in the petrochemical industry and access to the latest
technologies can help the country to produce a range of highly value-added
items.
He said construction of the plant will be
a major leap for Iran in curbing sale of crude oil and gas, adding abundance of quality
feedstock in Iran as well as the country's proximity to international markets
are two main outstanding features foreign companies bank on in dealing with the OPEC member state.
Highlighting the company's presence in Iran's
between 1966 to 2004 in projects like developing oil and gas projects, laying
pipelines as well as construction of refineries and petrochemical plants, he
added, "This project provides Techint with an opportunity to resume its
presence in Iran's industry."
He said under this contract, Techint will
not only help the plant to choose the best licenser but also provide it with
project management, engineering, procurement and construction services in the
first phase.
Techint holds a leading position in the
construction and management of complex oil and gas projects, including central
processing facilities, gas treatment plants, offshore platforms, marine
facilities and installations, onshore oil and gas and multi-products pipelines
and LNG regasification terminals.
