TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The consumption of ethylene by petrochemical facilities operating in western provinces of Iran rose by 32% in the first 7 months of the current calendar year (began March 21), indicating more feedstock supply to the plants.

Speaking to NIPNA, Ali Mohammad Bossaqzadeh, director of production control at National Petrochemical Company (NPC), said over 710,000 tons of the item was consumed by the plants operating along the West Ethylene Pipeline in the first 7 months of the current Iranian calendar year.

He said the amount is up 32% from the same period last year.

The official said production of Mahabad and Kurdistan petrochemical facilities has been acceptable during the period, adding an increase is expected in the productivity of all the plants operating along the pipeline.

Feeding 12 petrochemical plants in 11 provinces, the West Ethylene Pipeline is planned to deliver 1.3 million tons of ethylene during the current calendar year, he said.

Construction of the massive feedstock pipeline began in 2002 with an investment of $8.5 billion.
