Iran Eyes 5.5mt/y in Increased Petchem Output Capacity by March 2018

TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Several major petrochemical projects are scheduled to come on-stream before the end of the current calendar year to March 20 2018, adding over 5.5 million metric tons to the country's annual production capacity, a senior petrochemical official said.

Marjan, Kaveh and phase III of Pardis petrochemical projects will become operational before the current calendar year’s end, Managing Director of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Marziyeh Shahdaei  said.

She said the projects will add 5.5 million metric tons per year to the country’s annual petrochemical production capacity.

Marjan Petrochemical Plant alone will add 1.6 mt/y to the country’s annual production capacity, Shahdaei, who is also deputy petroleum minister in petrochemical affairs, added.

Moreover, Kaveh Plant, the world’s biggest methanol production facility, is being developed for processing 2.3 mt/y of the item.

Besides these three projects there are other plants that will come online before the yearend like phase II of West Ethylene Pipeline and parts of Damavand Petrochemical Utility Plant, she noted.

Iran supplied 50 million tons of petrochemicals last year of which over 20 million tons was exported fetching the country nearly $10b in revenues.

In the past 5 months, the country has yielded over 22 million tons of products.
