TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Iran says its downstream petrochemical sector will see a major leap once Maroon Petrochemical Plants launches its new compounding unit.

Speaking to reporters, Managing Director of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Marziyeh Shahdaei said Maroon Petrochemical Plant's compounding unit will not only supply the domestic market for its items, but will export the surplus on international markets.

A producer of olefin and polyethylene, Maroon Petrochemical Plant needed such a unit to process its polyethylene output in order to generate more value-added.

It began construction of a compounding unit in 2015.

The unit is being constructed with the aim of completing the value chain in the downstream sector of the industry in the regions and prevent the sale of raw materials, he said.

The unit's first phase is being developed with €11m and IRR12b investments.

Maroon Petrochemical Facility, located in Mahshahr PETZONE, southwestern Iran, extracts ethane from natural gas and offers it to petrochemical plants as feedstock.
