TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Iran's Arya Sasol Petrochemical Plant has acquired the technical knowhow for mass production of MD3717 polyethylene after its licensor left the country due to the US-led sanctions on Tehran, the company's CEO said.

Amir Hossein Bahreini said Arya Sasol has developed new catalysts for production of the item which was licensed by LyondellBasell before it left the company due to US-led sanctions on Tehran.

The catalysts are produced only in two other petrochemical units across the globe, he said, adding following imposition of the sanctions, the company initiated efforts to produce the catalyst by relying on domestic capabilities.

Arya Sasol has initiated cooperation with a number of European companies including Germany's Linde Group for production of new catalysts and petrochemicals in 2018.

"Talks are under way for construction of a heavy density polyethylene pilot plant at Arya Sasol Complex, as well," he said.

Arya Sasol supplied 1.6 million tons of products last calendar year which ended on March 20.

The company has also exhibited 108% productivity over the course of the first 5 months of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 21.

The plant also plans to the 2.1mt/y production in the current year, the official added.
