TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran has planned to equip all its major industrial units including petrochemical plants with an online emission monitoring system in a bid to save some environment by curbing emission of pollutants at industrial facilities.

An official with the Department of Environment (DOE) told NIPNA that the system will detect particles made of nitrogen dioxide, sulfur and carbon dioxide.

Shina Ansari said 24% of the country’s major industrial facilities operating in various sectors including oil, gas and petrochemical industries have been prioritized for installation of the online system.

She said in the first phase of the project, 1,836 major industrial units across the country need the system of which 433 (24%) have been prioritized.

The plants’ wastewater treatment units and chimneys will be equipped with the monitoring system, she said.
