Once operational,
the projects will bring Iran’s petrochemical production capacity to more than
that of Saudi Arabia by 2019.
Phase
II of Kavian Petrochemical Plant, Ethylene Glycol Unit of Morvarid Petrochemical
Plant, Kurdistan Petrochemical Project, Entekhab Polystyrene Project, and Takht
Jamshid Pars Petrochemical Project came online during spring and brought Iran’s
petrochemical production capacity to 62 mt/y.
What is
more, phase III of Pardis Petrochemical Project with 1.755mt/y of urea and
ammonia production capacity and 650,000 tons/year of other saleable items,
Kaveh Petrochemical Plant with 2.31mt/y methanol production capacity, phase I
of Bushehr Petrochemical Plant with 4.11mt/y production capacity, Marjan Petrochemical
Plant with production capacity of 1.6mt/y and phase I of Petro Kimia Ibn Sina
with 23,000t/y of production capacity are projects that are slated to
become operational during the current calendar year.
Once operational,
these projects will add a total of 9.85 million tons per year to the country’s petrochemical
production capacity and will bring it to nearly 72 mt/t from currently 62 mt/y.
Moreover,
there are other projects across the country that will add another 2.8 mt/y to
the production capacity of the country bringing its total annual production
capacity to 75 mt/y by next fiscal year beginning on March 21.
This
means Iran’s petrochemical production capacity will catch up with that of Saudi
Arabia by the end of the next calendar year.
