TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The Italian petrochemical majors, Versalis and Maire Tecnimont Group, have closed ranks with Iranian partners to build Iran’s first polymer park in Assalouyeh, southern Iran.

The complex is being constructed for completion of styrene production value-chain and joining Iran to the club of special polymer producers.

The four plants operating in the park will supply polymer products of the highest international standards.

Last year, Entekhab Petrochemical Plant, as the first project of the park was launched with 250,000 tons of annual expansionary polystyrene production capacity.

Sadaf and Padjam Polymer plants are two other projects under construction in the complex. The two plants will be suppliers of ESBR that is the main feedstock used for production of tires and rubber, SB, SBS, ABS and LCBR used for producing auto-industry parts and kitchen stuff.

Construction of Sadaf Petrochemical Plant, being developed for production of 136,000 tons of ESBR per year, has so far made 60% and is expected to come online next calendar year (which started on March 21).

Moreover, Pad Jam Petrochemical Plant has made 55% progress in its construction. Once operational, the plant will supply 236,000 tons of SB, SBS, ABS and LCBR annually.

All the projects in the park have been licensed either be Italy’s Versalis or Tecnimont group.
